Holiday season at the Castle of Dreams

I amsterdam is the official motto of the city of Amsterdam. The website Iamsterdam.com is trusted by more than a million visitors a month looking to visit, enjoy, live, work and invest in Amsterdam.

For many style-savvy visitors, Amsterdam’s iconic 146 year old department store De Bijenkorf is already such stuff as dreams are made on. Five floors of premium fashion, designer brands and luxury products are surely enough to make any shopper weak at the knees, right? Well find something sturdy to hold on to, because this Christmas the store is taking the magic to a whole new level – with its festive ‘Castle of Dreams’ theme, set to take your holiday season shopping to exciting new places.

Let’s start with those window displays

Created by celebrated Dutch set designer and artist Noa Verhofstad, who last year designed the window displays for French Fashion house Hermes, this year’s festive window displays are an attraction in themselves. Soundtracked by magical music, each window depicts a different room within the Castle of Dreams. From the daring romance in the tower room to prancing  ballerinas in the ballroom and a suave monarch hanging with his homeboys in the King’s Room, each window pulls you further into the Bijenkorf’s storybook world. We’re told the window concept took 338 days to create from idea to unveiling, using a combination of artistic techniques including 3D printing and hand-stitched needlework. So don’t leave Amsterdam without passing by to take a look!

Cartier: Jeweller of kings

Just in time for Christmas shopping, luxury jewellers Cartier have opened a brand new boutique in De Bijenkorf. It’s as though they knew we’d all been good boys and girls this year. Famed for being the court jeweller to 19 royal families around the world, La Maison Cartier was famously called ‘jeweller of kings, king of jewellers’ by Edward VII of England. What could be more fitting for a Castle of Dreams? The spacious store dedicated to all that sparkles offers a full range of Cartier’s iconic jewellery collections including Tank, Santos, Ballon Bleu and Cle de Cartier.

Santa Claus is coming to De Bijenkorf

Have you made your list and checked it twice? Good – because now’s your chance to hand it to the Big Man himself. Father Christmas and his elves will be making regular appearances at De Bijenkorf in the lead up to Christmas, over the weekend of 10-11 and from 17-24 December. Have your photo taken with him, give him your list, and don’t forget to show him where to find the new Cartier boutique.
