Amsterdam Weekend Guide – April 28 – 30
Hopefully you still have some energy left after King’s Day, because this weekend in Amsterdam is packed full of fun.
From a soup disco to museum after hours and a weekend-long beach party, we’ve loads of ways to fend off that King’s Day comedown and keep you in party mode until Monday. Read on for our pick of events in Amsterdam this weekend.
The Maker Market
The gorgeous Maker Market returns to the equally gorgeous surrounds of De Hallen for its fourth edition this weekend, showcasing a pleasing range of products from the coolest Amsterdam brands and makers. With stalls covering fashion, cosmetics, homeware, food, gifts and crafts, you’ll find everything you never knew you needed in your life and more besides. Browse through the market and then peruse your purchases over a healthy lunch at the Food Hallen – we can recommend Fento for some imaginative Mexican-Asian fusion food packed full of plant-based goodness.
Joe Goddard at Bitterzoet
He of Hot Chip and 2 Bears fame brings his solo party to Bitterzoet on Saturday in celebration of new album ‘Electric Lines’. Shake your funky stuff to Joe’s danceable sounds (which have drawn comparisons to Four Tet, Caribou and Jamie xx) including recent singles ‘Lose Your Love’ and ‘Music is the Answer’.

Vincent op Vrijdag (Vincent on Friday)
Amsterdam’s regular night at the museum returns this Friday with a special opportunity to view the world’s largest collection of Van Goghs after dark. Taking place on the last Friday of each month, the event is a collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and a range of young creative makers and initiatives from Amsterdam, and enhances the usual museum experience with a programme of special tours, workshops, talks (please note that these may be in Dutch) and more. Add to that some Friday night grooves from DJ Mata Hari (Red Light Radio) and a cocktail bar, and you’ve got yourself one heck of an arty party.
World Disco Soup Day x Amsterdam
This quirky little event had us at ‘soup disco’, but delve a little deeper and you’ll find that it’s also for a mighty good cause. Part of the global World Disco Soup Day initiative that sees events taking place from Peru to Japan to highlight the issue of food waste, this Amsterdam chapter unfolds at sustainable food and drink hangout BRET, in the Sloterdijk district of Amsterdam Nieuw West, and promises to be a cosy afternoon of delicious soup, locally brewed beer and good music.

Pllek 5th birthday
The North Amsterdam hotspot celebrates five years at the heart of NDSM Wharf’s renaissance with a weekend-long party taking over the entire bar, restaurant and beach. Kicking off on Saturday afternoon and going all the way through to Sunday evening, the event features a jam-packed line-up of DJs, family-friendly entertainment, dance performances and more. If the sun comes out they’ll stoke up the beach BBQ (from 16:00 – 20:00), so keep everything crossed for good weather and check the Facebook event page for the full line-up and updates.
