Amsterdam Weekend Guide ADE special – October 20-22
Every weekend is special in the Dutch capital, but this weekend’s even more special. That’s right: the Amsterdam Dance Event, one of the world’s biggest EDM festivals, is finally upon us. But it’s not just about raves, DJ sets and dance parties –ADE has something for everyone this weekend.
There’s a house-yoga crossover event, a VR cinema showcase, an easygoing club night at a beer bar, a chaotic twist on bingo and a daytime clubbing event with free breakfast.
Looking for big DJs and huge ADE club events? Check out our ADE top 5.
WNDRBAR @ BRET
You can’t beat the atmosphere at beer bar BRET: the quirky hotspot near Sloterdijk Station – which was designed from the ground up using reclaimed shipping containers – has one heck of a gezellig vibe. The bar’s mismatched furniture, bohemian atmosphere, friendly staff and diverse crowd all intertwine to make for one of the coolest bar experiences in Amsterdam.
And they’re throwing an extra-special ADE edition of their easygoing club night, WNDRBAR, which always boasts the latest and greatest funk, house and disco tunes. One thing’s for sure: special guests Felix Tapes, George Du Poisson and Mino Abadier are sure to make good use of the infamous WNDRBAR Soundsystem.
Deep House Yoga ADE special
Electronic music isn’t all about high-octane parties, packed dancefloors and blasting speakers. Sometimes the genre can be used for relaxation, mindfulness and self-reflection, and that’s what the Deep House Yoga ADE special is all about. Old meets new, as the 5,000-year-old tradition of yoga is fused with modern deep-house tracks. And with music from the likes of M.A.N.D.Y. and Franca, you won’t need much inspiration to join in.
Breakfast Club ADE
So you were out late on Friday dancing all night to the latest EDM tunes; you’re low on energy, tired and groggy. But there’s only way to blast away those ADE cobwebs: a nice, hearty brekkie and even more EDM! Enter Breakfast Club ADE. With three areas of top-notch DJs (local an international) and a free breakfast included, you can’t go far wrong with this ADE spin on the popular daytime club event. This year’s star-studded line-up includes Tommy Kornuijt, Mark Antoni, Claire Morgan, Dr. Rubinstein and more.
ADE x Virtual Reality
If you haven’t made the trip to Amsterdam’s VR Cinema (the first of its kind in the world), then you’re missing out. It’s a great way to get a first look at the tech we’ll all have in our homes in the coming years, and some of the cinema’s experiences are so exhilarating that they’re bound to stick with you for years to come.
ADE is the perfect time to get in on that VR action, as there’s a dedicated programme just for the event. Attendees are invited to take a psychedelic journey through surreal dream worlds and abstract landscapes – all designed by experienced visual artists. A little too heavy? There’s also a VR tour of the underground dance scene from Joyvan Guevara, Cuba’s crowned jewel of EDM music.
Bongo’s Bingo vs ADE
Bongo’s Bingo has been taking the world by storm with its quirky blend of traditional bingo, stand-up comedy and general craziness. The concept’s simple: cross off your numbers as they get called out and … well, it’s not that simple: there’ll also be dance-offs, rave intervals, heckling and more to tide you over between rounds. You might not have a clue what’s going on most of the time at Bongo’s Bingo, but that’s half the fun. Need more information on the chaotic twist on the traditional game? Check out our review of last month’s launch event. Needless to say, this is one bingo hall you don’t want Nan to see…
